 | Cheerleaders |
| At Northwestern University, cheerleading is considered a sport, as the program features both a varsity and a junior varsity squad. The varsity squad cheers for football in the fall and men's basketball in the winter. The JV's primary sport is women's basketball, and some are selected to cheer at football games. Both squads also make appearances at various functions and philanthropic events. |

| Ladycats Dance Team | |
| The Northwestern Varsity Dance Team -- a.k.a. The Ladycats -- is a recognized varsity activity that is supported by the Northwestern Athletic Department. We actively perform and practice throughout the fall, winter and spring, as well as compete at UDA College Nationals in January and at UDA College Spirit Camp in the summer. The Ladycats cheer and dance at all home football and basketball games, and have additional charity performances throughout the year.

 | Willie the Wildcat |
| The mascot known as "Willie the Wildcat" was developed in three stages. The nickname "Wildcats" was initiated in 1924. Nine years later, in 1933, the Northwestern athletic department teamed up with an advertising firm to create the first caricature of Willie. In 1947, the first mascot was actually brought to life when four members of the Alpha Delta fraternity dressed up as Willie for their Homecoming float. |
